Jewellery care
18k Gold Filled, 18k Gold Plated, 925 Sterling Silver:
Our jewellery pieces are crafted with care and precision to ensure its beauty. It's important to note that while 18k gold filled jewellery is more resistant to water than 18k gold plated it is vital to care for it in the right way.
Sterling silver jewellery is waterproof and can be worn all the time but it has its own unique care requirements, all types require gentle care to maintain their quality.
How to care for your jewellery:
- Water & Wear
Many people get told that 18-carat gold plated jewellery is completely waterproof and can be worn in the shower or while swimming. While that is true and occasional contact with water won’t ruin your jewellery, it’s actually the chemicals found in everyday products that cause tarnishing. We strongly recommend removing your jewellery before showering, swimming, or bathing, as chlorine, soaps, fake tan, moisturisers, and hand sanitisers can strip the gold plating over time and dull the finish. It’s not the water it’s the chemicals you use with water!
2. Avoid Oils, Lotions & Beauty Products
To keep your jewellery looking its best, avoid wearing it while applying lotions, oils, sunscreen, perfumes, or fake tan. These products can build up on the surface and accelerate tarnishing by stripping the plating.
3. Remove Before Sleeping
Do not sleep in your jewellery. This helps prevent unnecessary wear, bending, scratching, or snagging while you move.
4. Store Carefully
When not in use, store your jewellery in a dry, preferably air-tight pouch or box. Like our BCJ pouches/box! Store pieces separately to avoid scratching and friction. Keep away from direct sunlight.
5. Clean Gently & Regularly
After each wear, gently wipe your jewellery with a soft, dry cloth to remove oils and residue. For deeper cleaning, use a mild soap and water solution, then dry thoroughly. Avoid harsh cleaners or abrasives.
6. Avoid Harsh Chemicals
Keep your jewellery away from chlorine, bleach, cleaning products, and other harsh chemicals, as these can damage both the plating and the base metal
7. Avoid Harsh Activities & Sports
Remove your jewellery before participating in sports, workouts, or any vigorous activities. Impact, sweat, and friction can cause scratches, bending, or premature wear, and sweat can also react with the plating, leading to faster tarnishing.
By following these simple care instructions, you can ensure that your jewellery remains beautiful and pristine for years to come.
Please take note that any tarnishing is not covered under refunds or returns, as it’s due to how the customer cares for their jewellery.
This further is applicable to certain breakage situations. Refunds are not applicable if the jewellery is found to be damaged due to being caught, pulled, or mishandled eg mid chain breaks. Our pieces are delicate, and care instructions are provided to ensure their longevity. Any damage caused by improper handling will not qualify for a refund or exchange.
